TikTok won't run a campaign on $50 a day or less, or an ad group on $20 a day or less (TikTok Ads Help, July 2026). Once you're live, the median TikTok CPM was $4.08 per 1,000 impressions from August 2025 to July 2026. That's down from $5.71 the year before (Focus Digital, 2026 benchmarks).

Those two numbers answer most of the question. The harder part is cost per view, because TikTok, YouTube, Instagram and clipping agencies each count a "view" differently. Below are the minimums, the 2026 rates and what a view means on each. Then we compare TikTok ads with a clipping campaign, using views from our own 115 campaigns.

What it costs to start TikTok ads

TikTok sets a floor at two levels. A campaign with a daily budget must spend more than $50 a day, and each ad group inside it more than $20 a day.

Budget levelTikTok minimumWhat a 30-day test costs at the floor
Campaign, daily budgetMore than $50 a dayAbout $1,500
Ad group, daily budgetMore than $20 a dayAbout $600 per ad group

The floor is not the real cost. You also pay for the videos, and most advertisers run several creatives at once to find the ones that work. A test with two or three ad groups and fresh creative every couple of weeks costs several times the floor.

TikTok CPM and click-through rates in 2026

TikTok ads bought for reach are priced on CPM, the price for 1,000 impressions (TikTok Ads Help). In 2026 that price fell.

  • Median CPM: $4.08, down 28.5% from $5.71 in the prior 12 months (Focus Digital, August 2025 to July 2026).
  • CPM by industry: between $3.46 and $4.61 across the ten retail categories in the same report.
  • Day and season: in the same report, Thursday impressions cost $4.83 against $3.63 on Saturday, Black Friday pushed CPM to $6.26, and Q4 carried a 22% to 30% premium.
  • Median click-through rate: 0.61%, from a separate dataset of 2,500 advertisers across 2025, ranging from 0.22% in travel to 2.59% in consumer electronics.

Treat these as planning ranges. Focus Digital pools other vendors' published datasets, so the figures are not TikTok's own, and TikTok doesn't publish an average CPM. If your launch lands in Q4, budget for the premium. Your price depends on audience, season and how well your creative holds attention.

Paid reach elsewhere is getting more expensive. Meta reported that its average price per ad rose 12% year over year in Q2 2026 (Meta Q2 2026 results, SEC). Ad impressions rose 14% in the same quarter. That covers Instagram, including Reels.

What counts as a view on TikTok, YouTube and Instagram

A "view" can mean a video that started playing, one watched for six seconds, or one on a post that passed a review. Before you compare any cost per view, check which of these you are buying.

YouTube still keeps the older, stricter count. It renamed it "engaged views" and moved it to Advanced Mode in YouTube Analytics. If a vendor quotes you Shorts views, ask which of the two they mean.

Cost per view: TikTok ads vs influencers vs clipping

The three ways to buy short-form reach price different units, so the cleanest comparison puts the unit next to the price.

Read the table with the units in mind. An impression is a video shown on a screen, which is not the same as a view. The $186 figure comes from a marketplace skewed to smaller creators.

In budget terms, $15,000 of TikTok reach ads at the median CPM buys about 3.7M impressions. You choose the audience and the dates. The same $15,000 on a clipping campaign typically buys about 10M verified views, spread across hundreds of clippers' posts over a few weeks. One buys exposure on a schedule, the other buys views on posts from many accounts.

How TikTok performs inside a clipping campaign

It is easy to assume short-form means TikTok. Our own campaign data says to check that first. We read the 115 campaigns in our public library in Whop Content Rewards on October 7 and 20, 2026. TikTok counted in 104 of them.

Source: our campaign library in Whop Content Rewards, October 2026. Each campaign sets which platforms count.

TikTok's share of views roughly matched its share of posts, while Reels pulled well above its share. Across every campaign, TikTok carried 24% of verified views.

Kitsch's brand campaign shows the same split on one dashboard. Its clips reached 12.7M views from 841 Instagram posts and 3.44M views from 395 TikTok posts, 16.2M in total since May 14, 2026.

Music was the exception. TikTok carried 57% of verified views on our 59 music campaigns, and BBNO$'s "Burger" campaign reached 40.3M views, all on TikTok, from 549 posts. If your footage is a song, a dance or a sound people reuse, TikTok earns its place in the plan. If it's a product, a film or a sports moment, our data says to plan for Reels at least as much as TikTok.

Each clip runs as a normal post from a clipper's account, and each one is reviewed before its views count. Our TikTok clipping agency page explains how those campaigns run on TikTok.

Using TikTok ads and clipping together

The two can run as one plan. Clipping finds the clips that work, and ads put money behind them. All three platforms let a brand run a post from someone else's account as an ad, with that account's permission.

PlatformHow a brand boosts another account's postWhat the platform reports
TikTokSpark Ads, using an authorization code the post's owner creates for 7, 30, 60 or 365 days (TikTok Ads Help)134% higher completion rate than standard In-Feed Ads, in TikTok's own 2022 test (TikTok)
InstagramPartnership ads, using an ad code the creator turns on (Instagram Help)19% lower cost per action when added to standard campaigns, Meta's average (Meta, Dec 2025)
YouTubeCreator partnerships boost, with the video linked to your Google Ads account; you must hold the rights (Google Ads Help)An average 30% increase in conversion lift for advertisers promoting creator-led Shorts, Google's data from Jan 2025 to Jan 2026 (YouTube, Mar 2026)

Each performance figure is the platform's own claim about its own product.

In practice, run the clipping campaign first. After a wave, the dashboard shows which clips and which platforms pulled views. Boosting one of those clips puts ad money behind a post that already proved itself as organic content. Spark Ads need the post owner's authorization, so agree with your agency up front whether top clips can be boosted.

How to budget a TikTok test

Decide what unit you're buying before you decide the budget. Impressions, focused views, posts and verified views each answer a different question.

  1. Pick the goal. Reach on a fixed date suits ads. Steady views over weeks suits clipping. A trusted voice suits creator posts.
  2. Fund the minimums for long enough. A few days at the floor tells you little, so plan at least two to three weeks. When you scale, raise budgets in steps. TikTok advises no more than 40% at a time during the learning phase, and 30% after it (TikTok Ads Help).
  3. Budget for creative. TikTok says most brands refresh ad creative every two to four weeks. In North America, campaigns with at least 10 unique creatives saw 2.6 times the ad recall of those with fewer than five (TikTok Ads Help, May 2026). A clipping campaign gets that variety from hundreds of clippers cutting your footage different ways.
  4. Measure the same way across options. Compare branded search and site visits for the weeks each test ran, not each platform's own view count.

Frequently asked questions

How much does it cost to advertise on TikTok? TikTok requires more than $50 a day at the campaign level and more than $20 a day per ad group. At those floors, a 30-day test costs about $600 to $1,500 before you pay for any videos.

What is a good CPM on TikTok in 2026? Focus Digital's 2026 benchmarks put the median TikTok CPM at $4.08, with retail categories ranging from $3.46 to $4.61. Your own CPM moves with the audience you target, the season and how well your creative holds attention.

How much do TikTok influencers charge? Marketplace data reported by Storyboard18 in March 2026 put the average TikTok payout at $186 per collaboration. Across all platforms on that marketplace, nearly 80% of deals were priced below $300. Large creators charge far more and price each deal separately.

Is cost per view the same as CPM? No. CPM is the price for 1,000 impressions, which counts a video shown on screen. Cost per view depends on what each platform counts as a view, which ranges from a play start to a 15-second watch.
